Abstract
The present study aimed to determine the reasons of unemployment graduates and the coping strategies that they used in order to survive. According to the results of the study, there were causes as to to why the college graduates were rejected and therefore unemployed. Lack of qualification is one. The age of the participants in this study happened to affect their rejections that led to their unemployment. One of the participants even experienced getting rejected due to the fact that even at the age of 27, he still got no experience for the entered college at the late age. The company chose applicants who are younger than he was. The experiences and reasons of being unemployed somehow also depends on the age of the college graduates. Their experiences varied depending on their age. It was also found in the study that as graduates or a degree holder of a four year course, the participants were having salary expectation. The participants' preferred location for work also affects their unemployment also affects the reason why they were unemployed. To add up to the reality of unemployment, there were really applicants who were being rejected due to the palakasan system which is very common in the Philippines. As for the challenges that they were facing or faced, the study found that most of it were personal issues. Furthermore, the unemployed graduates tend to have financial problems. It is probably one of the most depressing thing that they could face. This keeps them from enjoying the things that they enjoy while they were a student. It was harder to ask for money from their parents now that they had graduated because instead of asking for money, they were supposed to be already helping with the finances. According to the study, in order to survive from all the challenges that they were facing due to unemployment after graduation, they had to have at least one or two coping strategies. One of which was to keep communicating with the family or being transparent with them. Keeping from the family what one is going through would not do them any good. Staying positive even after all the rejections was a hard thing to do but once done. an individual will surely be able to survive most of the stress.
