Abstract
The 30-day field practice was conducted at the CDO Farm located in Brgy. Dingin, Iba, Zambales from June 15, 2016 to July 13, 2016. The field practice focused on the activities at the Natural Food Production Division. The division oversees the production of green algae (Chlorella vulgaris), rotifers (Brachionus rotundiformis) and brine shrimp (Artemia salina). Rotifers and brine shrimp serve as natural foods for the fish and crustacean larvae at the farm. The trainee experienced hands-on training in culturing and harvesting of the natural foods for fish. Among the other activities conducted by the trainee are feeding both the larvae and brood stock of the fish and crustacean species cultured in the farm, collecting the spawned sea bass, spawned milk fish, and milk fish eggs, sorting and grading sea bass fry, treating the zoeae of mud crab with antibiotic and anti-fungal chemicals, harvesting of giant tiger prawn and sea bass, cleaning the hatchery tanks of mud crab and sea bass. The natural food production of the farm suffices the requirement of its fish and crustacean larvae. To support its production of the farm suffices the requirement of its fish and crustacean larvae. To support its production, the farm has trained personnel in the production of natural food. However, the farm lacks equipment that could help in monitoring the water qualities which contribute to the growth of the natural food organism.
