Abstract
The study was conducted to determine the efficacy of Eros Gold DF as pre and early post-emergent herbicide on direct seeded hybrid rice and to determine the response of direct seeded Mestiso 38 to different rates of pre- and early post emergent application of hebicides. The treatments were: T1 (1 kg of Eros Gold DF per hectare), T2 (1.5 kg of Eros Gold DF per hectare), T3 (2 kg of Eros Gold DF per hectare), T4 (1 L kg of Sofit per hecatre) were applied five days after sowing and T5 (1 kg of Eros Gold DF per hectare), T6 (1.5 kg of Eros Gold DF per hectare), T7 (2 kg of Eros Gold DF per hectare) T8 (.5 L of Eros Gold DF per hectare) were applied ten (10) days after sowing, T9 served as the untreated check. Results showed that the test herbicide has no injury to rice plant when applied at 5 and 10 DAS but the check herbicide Ricestar Extra showed injury to the rice plant up to 21 days after application. The result further showed that the test herbicide (Eros Gold DF) and check herbicides (Sofit nd Ricestar Extra) adequately controlled all types of weeds. Results showed that Treatment 2 (Eros Gold DF applied five (5) days after sowing) had a higher numerical yield of 3.38 tons per hectare compared with the other treatments. Analysis of variance however, showed insignificant differences in grain yield among the treatments which indicates that gain yield was not affected by the various treatments.
