Living in a family is a universal experience, yet each individual's experience varies due to the distinct communication patterns within different family systems. Family Communication Patterns play a role in shaping and mirroring the unique familial experiences of individuals (Galvin, Braithwaite, & Bylund, 2016). Family Communication Patterns (FCP) and Communication Barriers influence the communication flow within the family. Thus, it is important to study the communication patterns and communication barriers present in the family in pursuit of identifying the factors that cause ineffective communication within the family. This study identified the Family Communication Patterns (FCP) and Communication Barriers among Central Luzon State University students. The primary goal is to explore the relationship between these variables to raise awareness and address communication gaps between parents and children. According to the Family Communication Pattern (FCP) theory, family communication determines what sort of family communication pattern occurs— specifically, by using the two major communication factors: conversation orientation and conformity orientation. However, people need to be made aware that there can be another aspect of why families exhibit a particular communication pattern: the communication barrier. Addressing this problem will have benefits for both students and parents. Therefore, children and parents may better grasp how a different factor can contribute to a particular communication pattern in their household. A quantitative research design was employed in this study following a correlational approach for the identification of relationships between the variables. While stratified sampling method and Slovin’s formula with 95% level of confidence and 5% margin of error were used in getting the sample population having 387 undergraduate students from different colleges in CLSU as the sample size. A mix of self-made and standardized survey questionnaires consisting of a Likert Scale was used as the instrument for the data gathering. Both mean and mode and frequency and percentage distribution were used to analyze the data. While Pearson r, T-test, and ANOVA were utilized for the treatment of the correlation of variables. The study reveals that among the two Communication Barriers, the Semantic Barrier is significantly higher than the Environmental Barrier with a mean of 2.33. Thus, the majority of CLSU students encounter Semantic Barriers. While Consensual Communication Pattern is the most practiced Family Communication pattern. Moreover, there is no significant relationship found between the Socio- Demographic Profile, Communication Barriers, and Family Communication Patterns of students. However, there is a positive correlation between the presence of Communication Barriers and the practiced Communication Patterns within their families, as proven by p < .001. This study examines the relationship among Socio-Demographic Profile, Family Communication Patterns, and Communication Barriers in Central Luzon State University students. Results indicate the presence of both Semantic and Environmental Barriers in family communication across various family structures. Semantic Barriers are predominant, with a mean of 2.33. "Other" family structures experience higher level of Environmental Barriers. Consensual Family Communication Pattern tends to be the most practiced communication pattern among the surveyed population. Additionally, a positive correlation between Communication Barriers and Family Communication Patterns is observed.
