dc.description.abstractThis study used the findings of Ronald E. Anderson in his study of suffering and applied his concept of suffering to the analysis of the controversial Netflix mini-series, Thirteen Reasons Why. Anderson's concept of suffering includes: (1) Suffering as Punishment, (2) Suffering as Reward, (3) Suffering as Manageable, (4) Relief of suffering as Human Purpose, and (5) Relief of Social Suffering as Human Purpose. Also, the study determined the causes of the character's sufferings and the changes in their personality through these sufferings. This research found out that the Netflix mini-series Thirteen Reasons Why shows things that are relevant in what is happening now in our society. There are lots of suffering that the character experienced in this mini-series. With the use of Ronald E. Anderson's Human Suffering and Quality of Life, the study discussed that there are different kinds of sufferings that could affect a person, and they may be (1) self-inflicted, (2) caused by other persons, (3) unexpected suffering, (4) physical suffering (5) mental suffering : and (6) social suffering.
