Bioaccumulation of cadmium and lead in selective tissues of Anuran amphibians

Abstract
Based on the results obtained, presence of cadmium and lead were observed in all the soil sampling areas. Higher amount was noted in lead as compared to cadmium. The amount of lead detected is highest in area 1 (with highest altitude) Cadmium and lead were also observed in water samples collected in all sampling areas but is regarded as below the permissible limit.
Rhinella marina or commonly known as cane toad was noted to be dominant species. In the three different sampling areas where R. marina was collected, six individuals out of 371 have abnormalities affecting the forelimb and the hind limb. These are oligodactyly, ectrodactyly, secondary rotation, micromelia, ectromelia, brachydactyly skin webbing. Both cadmium and lead were found to be present in some tissues of Rhinella marina. Highest concentration of cadmium was observed in liver and reproductive system (0.3 mg/Kg). Lead content was observed highest in skin (0.4 mg/Kg) from Area 1.
