Abstract
The Philippines is known as a nation that excels in the sectors of agriculture and aquaculture. As time goes by, the country is gradually experiencing an increase in population growth, water scarcity, and even drastic land conversion. These are threats to the farmers, as it means that they need to produce more food for the people and utilize water and land resources to avoid any further shortage. There should be an alternative farming method to sustain food production and address the fast depletion of land and available water resources. With this, the idea of implementing aquaponics came up. However, 'smart’ technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT) are not fully utilized in aquaponics. In this study, the aquaponics is composed of fish, and a particular crop. During this development, the lack of IoT utilization will be addressed since there will be an implementation of various sensors for monitoring systems, object detection, and automation. The different sensors are for monitoring the different water quality parameters; the object detection is for observing irregularities in the behavior of fish, such as gasping for air; and the automation is for the water aerator to automatically work once the camera detects that there is an alarming number of fish that are gasping for air, indicating that there is a lack of oxygen. There will also be a warning notification through push notification for this instance. This study proposes to have a hybrid control in the system for the user to freely control the water aerator, disregarding the data from the camera. The mobile-based application of this system will be created through Flutter, which will receive all the data from the sensors and display it to the user for monitoring purposes. The application will also generate graphs for visualization with all the gathered data.
