Abstract
The Department of Animal Science, College of Agriculture, Central Luzon State University offers the major practice program as an option to undergraduate thesis. It aims to produce quality graduates, equipped with the managerial skills and capable of decision making in poultry production. The major practice was conducted at the APO Poultry Module I from February to may 2016 and in APO Contract Broiler Project from June to July 2016. The student was exposed to different management practices and activities in raising broilers and layers such as brooding, feeding, lighting, water management, medication and vaccination, proper egg collection, sorting eggs, selection and culling, hauling, marketing and record keeping for proper evaluation of the project. At the APO Poultry Module I, the total cost in rearing 2083 pullets up to 17th weeks of age was Php 434,026.42. Cost of producing 2083 pullets is Php 208.36. The average % hen day production of Dekalb layers from 62nd to 69th weeks was 81.83% which is higher than the DeKalb base standard of 79.20%. The tota number of eggs produced in 62nd to 69th weeks was 74,957.00 with total sales value of Php 347,303.50 the feed cost from 62nd to 69th weeks was Php 211,470.00 with total feed consumed of 9,275 kg. The tota income over feed cost was Php 135,833.50. At the APO Contract Broiler Project, a total of 19,990 broiler chicks were raised. The feed conversion ratio after one production cycle was 1.83 the average live weight was 1.419 kilograms, mortality was 5.25% and harvest recovery was 94.75% the below parameters met the SMFI base standard because of poor quality stocks, proper feeding and care management given to the birds. The total revenue was Php 185,459.14 with operating expenses of Php 80,454. The project gained a net income of Php 124,329.64 with ROE of 154.535%.
