Abstract
The major practice was conducted last June 14, 2019 to July 26, 2019, with a total of 240 hours at the University Extension Office, Research, Extension and Training, Central Luzon State University, Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija under the supervision of Mr. Efraim G. Saturno, Science Research Analyst, CLSU.
Generally, the major practice was designed to exposed students to real work and life experiences through actual field and office immersion. Specifically, it aimed to the following: Enhance knowledge and skills in agricultural extension methods, techniques, and strategies by engaging in university extension office activities; Identify problems encountered in the major practice activities; and practice and develop desirable work attitude and values in extension management.
The major practice student was involved in the various activities in Mango Techno-Learning Site (MTLS) at the University Extension Office, Research, Extension, and Training, Central Luzon State University.
Mango Topworking is one of the technologies promoted in MTLS. The topworking of mango trees is a process which should be considered part of a normal orchard practice. Topworking of unproductive mango trees, such as the common Indian and carabao mango can be consired. It is not necessary to root out all established trees in order to replace them with new varieties by planting new trees. Through topworking, unproductive old trees can be productive.
The author's time at the Mango techno-learning site has thought him the values of teamwork and determination not only to strive towards a given goal but surpass it and aim for more endearing achievements.
The author believes that a detailed weekly agenda can benefit the major practice experience at the mango techno learning site, as it would make the objectives more visible. One of the problems met the major practice student is unavailability of farm tools and equipment during the actual farm operations such as prayer, chainsaw, and shovels. Therefore; it is recommended that there should be available farm tools and equipment during the field operations specifically in mango techno-demo learning site.
