The Angat Buhay Dairy Producers Cooperative (ABDPC) is one ofthe successful cooperatives in Nueva Ecija, which has been operational since 2000. This study was undertaken to evaluate the performance of ABDPC in implementing the Crabao-Based Enterprise Develeopment (CBED) program. Primary data and secondary data were collected and analyzed using both qualitative and quantitative procedures to draw lessons and learning from the all-women cooperative. To analyze productivity of dairy enterprise, calf drop and milk production per cow per day were used, whereas six financial ratios were used to evaluate the financial performance of the cooperative from 2010 to 2012. The cooperative is composed of 45 members. The cooperative received 50 heads of dairy buffalo composed of Brazilian and Bulgarian Murrah buffaloes from the Philippine Carabao Center (PCC). based on income structure analysis, income from carabao represents 22% of the total household income which helped households in some of their daily needs. Income of the farmers would have been much lower if they were not enagaged in dairy production. The cooperative produced 232 calves from 2001-2012 with calf-ratio of 2.09. Milk production ranged from 3.4 li to 11.71 per cow per day during the 12-year operation. There was an increasing trend in milk production and sales from 2001 to 2007 reaching 46,724 li per year and total sale of Php 1,54 million. However, production and sales of milk decreased from 2008 to 2012 due to decrease in milking animals. For 12 years annual average milk production was 27,654 li with a value of Php 882,423. The financial data analyzed for the last three years (2010-2012) showed the declining performance of the cooperative. In 2010 and 2011, it was still good financial status as indicated by the financial statements and the computed ratios. However, poor financial performance was recorded in 2012. The reduction in sales was primarily caused by the decrease in volume of milk produced due to reduction in lactating animals. The cooperative encountered problems on animal diseases such as diarrhea, bloat and liver disease. Delayed payments, improper milk handling during milk collection, and poor performance of milking animal were also mentioned as problems. The cooperative had a fruitful operation for the last 7-10 years, but slowly declined in terms of productivity and profitability starting from 2011 to 2012. The reasons for the decrease in performance had been assessed in this research, concerted efforts among the officers, farmer-members, LGU and PCC are called forth to operationalize the strategies to invigorate the cooperative in implementing the carabao-based enterprise.
