| dc.description.abstract | The Department of Animal Science, College of Agriculture, Central Luzon State University, offers major practice program as an option to undergraduate thesis. This was designed to expose the students into actual farming situation to acquire technical and managerial skills needed in actual farming condition and for increasing productive employment either in private or government agencies. The author conducted the major practice at the Philippine Carabao Center at CLSU Dairy Farm and was assigned to the production area from May to September 2015 and another 80 hours for milk processing at PCC outlet. The institution provided all the inputs necessary for the production with the supervision of the farm manager, veterinarian, farm workers and his adviser. Technical skills and management practices are the concerns like feeding; cleaning and sanitation, veterinary drugs administration, breeding, milking, milk handling and milk processing were experienced by the major practice student, also with the close supervision of the farm manager and animal caretakers. The total herd inventory of the PCC Dairy Farm at the start of the major practice was 84 head. Three (3) calves died due bloat, pneumonia and acute gastrointestinal infection and sixteen calves where produced in the month of June, August and September. The highest milk production performance was obtained during the month of September with 4,453.23 kg while the lowest milk production performance was obtained during the month of April with3,040 kg. Almost 87.46% of total milk produced was processed, while others were fed to calves, used for analysis and given as token. Pasteurized milk, low fat milk, choco milk, rice milk, coffee milk, lacto juice, yogurt milk, whey milk, kesong puti, pastillas de leche, polvoron were the milk products manufactured and sold in the farm. The total income of the farm during the major practice was Php 1,503,798.00. Total expenses amounted to Php 1,906,247.9. The resulting net income was Php 620,653.76402,449.9 and the computed return expenses (ROE) was 21.11%. | |
