Abstract
This study was conducted to assess the level of mechanization of rice production in Cabiao, Nueva Ecija. Specifically, it aimed to assess the level of human-powered, draught, animal-powered and mechanically-powered mechanization technology of Cabiao, Nueva Ecija for rice production; analyze the status of mechanization of the different field operations of rice production in Cabiao, Nueva Ecija and estimate the lack or needs to increase the level to optimum. The study was done using non-probability sampling, particularly, purposive sampling. The respondents was divided into 3 groups. Specifically, it was divided for those who use 0.5-1.5ha, 1.51-2.5ha, 2.51 and up. The survey questionnaire that was used was derived from existing survey instrument used by Philippine-Sino Center for Agricultural Technology (PhilSCAT) benchmark survey 2002 entitled Farm Mechanization Status in Irrigated Lowlands of Region 1, 2 and 3. The survey questionnaire was pre-tested with ten (10) respondents taken randomly from the different barangays of Cabiao in order in determine the possible answers of the survey questions. Using 95% level of confidence and 5% degree of error, 196 rice farmers was surveyed from the municipality of Cabiao. Among the different operation of rice production, land preparation has the high level of mechanization. Land preparation were recorded 8.39hp/ha while in crop care and maintenance and harvesting, and post-harvest was 2.67 hp/ha and 7.14hp/ha, respectively. Crop establishment belongs direct seeding, seed sowing, pulling and bundling of seedling and transplanting was not mechanized in Cabiao, Nueva Ecija. The level of mechanization in rice production was found to be 6.07hp/ha.
