Abstract
This study aimed to distinguish the levels of anime fanaticism and self-esteem among CLSU students. Alongside with the correlation of their socio-demographic characteristics to anime fanaticism and self-esteem. Gender differences is also predicted in terms of anime fanaticism and self-esteem. As well as the relationship of anime fanaticism and self-esteem. The instrumentation used in gathering the data was a three part survey. The first part was socio-demographic of the participants. It was conducted in Central Luzon State University, Science City of Muñoz, Nueva Ecija having 1,200 participants, 589 male students and 611 female students with an age reaching from 17 years old until 23 yaers old. In addition to this, the year level of the participants are ranging from 1st to 6th year. A total of 1,200 CLSU students from different colleges of the university. The second part is the Fanship Scale contextualized for anime fanaticism constructed to tap individuals' degree of fanship. Items tapped connectedness (emotional and psychological) with the interest, time spent with the interest, the amount of energy and money invested in the interest, and in-group versus outgroup perceptions. The third part is the Rosenberg's Self-Esteem Scale that measures global self-worth by measuring both positive and negative feelings about self. In terms of self-esteem, the result show that CLSU students have low level of self-esteem there is somewhat significant correlation which take mean as they grow older their self-esteem also increases wherein it contradicts the reported study according to the extensive review of the self-estemm literature that there is no systematic age relationship in self-esteem. Males are reported to have higher self-esteem rather than females.
