Abstract
The purpose of this study was to assess the implementation of solid waste management policies in San Jose City during special events such as Pailaw which is locally known as tourism attraction of the City. To determine the level of awareness and satisfaction of both vendors and attendees, to understand their perception towards the given rules and regulations of the city Department of Tourism and City Environment and Natural protection propaganda creating clean and healthy environments and sustainable tourism. This study aims to create a solid waste management policy plan for the local government unit to help further in the development of strong community building in terms of proper solid waste segregation during special events in San Jose City, Nueva Ecija. Cronbach's Alpha was employed to measure the pre-testing survey and assess the reliability, or internal consistency, of a set of scale or test items in the survey questionnaires. The collected data were statistically analyzed using descriptive and statistical tabulations to present qualitative and quantitative data. The percentage and frequency distribution were used for an overview of the socio-demographic profile of the respondents while mean, standard deviations, and weighted mean were used to calculate the expansion distribution of quantitative data. Non-statistical analysis was applied to qualitative data. This involves detailed descriptions of interview questions using descriptive and open-ended questions. The result showed that female vendors operate at a higher rate than male vendors while attendance involvement rates were higher for men than women. Attendees were under the age of 20 had the biggest participation in the event, while vendors are most likely to be between the age of 21 to 30 were mostly single civil status. The results showed that common waste generated is paper and cartoons, which are simple to use and environmentally acceptable, and are mostly collected waste in the Pailaw event. Plastic usage is banned in San Jose City. However, research findings reveal that many people continue to use plastic bags and bottles as they are seen practical tools to support paper and cartoon containers. Moreover, the results showed that the vendors were strongly satisfied with the implementation of LGU rules and regulations on solid waste management in San Jose City during special events. Standards were regulated by the LGU organizers and failing to comply with the regulations may influence the business' ability to continue operating at Pailaw event. On the other hand, attendees showed a satisfaction level on solid waste management policies, and were seen by some attendees as needing improvement. The findings of the present study have beneficial implications for the province especially solid waste management during special events. Th San Jose City local government can develop a waste management plant that will promote the city's environmentally free hazard from waste. As local tourism destination, this can elevate the Pailaw as one of the best local cultural tourism events during the Christmas season, thereby making the city locally competitive in the tourism market.
