Abstract
Gender and Sex are considered two of many compositions for one person’s identity, as stated, to follow the 5th Sustainable Development Goals, Gender Equality, an equal right for all types of gender. The SOGIE Bill was created and introduced to every institution and was put in in-depth analysis to check from all angles if this deserves recognition to be passed as law. Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, and Gender Expression Bill compiled all the essential purposes for protecting everyone’s rights and equality. On the side school premises, students are encouraged to freely express their fundamental human rights, such as security and protection. From this motivation, this study entitled Measuring the Level of Awareness and Acceptance of Students, mainly in male-dominated courses, specifically in Information Technology in the College of Engineering at Central Luzon State University, allows researchers to understand the spectrum of the student's level of awareness and acceptance.
To measure the level of awareness and acceptance of the SOGIE-SC and SOGIE Bill by the students, this descriptive study employed considerations in measuring by answering the following questions generated from statements related to the topic and the problem: 1.) What is the socio-demographic profile of the respondents? (sex, age, gender identity, and religion) 2.) What is the level of awareness of the CLSU BSIT students about the Proposed SOGIE Bill? 3.) What is the CLSU BSIT students’ acceptance level of the proposed SOGIE Bill? 4.) What is the BSIT perception of the SOGIE-SC and the proposed SOGIE Bill? 5.) What are the communication characteristics of the respondents? 6.) Determine the correlation of SOGIE awareness to the Socio- Demographic characteristics.
The study aims to measure the awareness and acceptance of the SOGIE Bill, mainly focusing on the male-dominated program, which is the BSIT students of CLSU. A Likert Scale method was used to measure respondents' awareness and acceptance of respondents, which was significantly helpful for rating the degree of their answers. The respondents' Socio-demographic Profiles mainly connect a relationship between sex, gender identity, religion, and age to their awareness and acceptance of the SOGIE-SC and SOGIE Bill. An overall analysis of the findings of the level of awareness of BSIT students accumulated a fourth degree of understanding and the same level of acceptance in the fourth degree of the majority of results. Considering the findings, male respondents have identified that they are aware of different types of expressing themselves, especially for the LGBTQIA+ community in the university setting, indicating their acceptance of other people in expression regardless of their SOGIE. Based on the findings, considering its purpose and limitations, a male-dominated course significantly welcomes the idea of the SOGIE Bill.
Considering the significant findings, BS Information Technology, a male- dominated program, collectively understands the SOGIE Bill and its purpose. Setting from their socio-demographic profiles, which correlationally created a relationship between awareness and acceptance, the hypothesis of this study identified the result. The result positively falls in the significance of understanding to the approval of students and vice versa. The two factors' level of awareness and acceptance was tested by examining ratings in the dissemination of information through communication channels that were relatively connected to students' degree of awareness. From that, students understand the SOGIE Bill and positively accept it as their perception has accumulated a high relevance to acceptance of the bill.
