Abstract
This study was conducted to determine what plants may be used for feeding lactating buffaloes that minimizes the cost of feeds without sacrificing its nutritional requirements. The data was collected from the Philippine Carabao Center and these data were used to formulate a mathematical model which minimizes the cost of feel blend subject to the nutritional requirements of lactating buffalo. The two-Phase Method of linear programming was used to solve the mathematical model. Mcrosoft’s Excel Solver was also used for comparison and confirmation of the result. Both methods showed similar results, that is, a lactating buffalo may be fed with a mix of 0.9216kg of Ipil-ipil, 0.0484kg of Soybean and 0.03kg of Molasses. As found by the two-phase method, this feed mix would entail an optimal cost of only Php 3.4712 while satisfying the nutrient requirements of the buffalo.
