Rice (oryza sativa L.) is among the three important cereal crop of the world and its production exceeds from that of wheat. Rhizobacteria has profound effect on plant growth. Present study was carried out to identify bacterial isolates with growth promoting properties collected from weedy rice and cultivated rice; to evaluate the responses of weedy rice and cultivated rice on the inoculation of Plant Growth-Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR) under laboratory and screenhouse conditions. A total eighteen (18) such bacteria were isolated on Burk’s Media from the soil rhizosphere. The isolates were screened in vitro for significant traits vis, IAA production, phosphorus soloubilization activity, ACC deaminase and starch hydrolysis. Among the 18 isolates 5 were subjected to BIOLOG GEN III Microbial Identification System analysis to determine isolates identify and 2 were finally selected for further studies. RE 3 (rice bacteria) and RF16 (weedy rice bacteria) were identified: Bacillus aryabhattai and Bacillus megaterium. Rice and weedy rice were inoculated with the selected isolates to evaluate their growth and yield response. The results showed that growth and yield of rice and weedy rice were not significantly influenced by the inoculation of the selected bacterial isolates.
