Abstract
Dance is a performing art form that expresses one’s idea or emotion and is consisting of purposefully selected sequences of human movement. This movement has aesthetic and symbolic value within a particular culture. Dance has any kinds, one of those in folk dance.
In this study, the researchers explored the symmetry patterns that involved in the foot steps and foot substeps of the folk dance, particularly the folk dances tinikling and tiklos by deforming and analyzing it. Those symmetries are translation, reflection, rotation and glide reflection. Frieze pattern are also considered in this study. Tinikling and tiklod are danced by partner, but in this study, both the steps and substeps danced by pair and danced by single person were considered. In tinikling, the position of the feet with respect to the pair of bamboo poles were considered. The study revealed that even in dancing, there’s mathematics.
