Abstract
Traditional farming methods have a high level of resource consumption, they are
at risk of climate change, pests, and diseases which lead to reduced yields as well as food
insecurity. Fogponics, also called "Aeroponics 2.0" leverages ultrasonic fogger to create
a nutrient-rich fog that envelops plant roots, enabling optimized nutrient absorption and
growth. The study aims to design and develop an Automated Fogponics System with IoT
Integration for Sustainable Farming and Monitoring, utilizing the spring onion plant, at
CLSU Hydroponics and Aquaponics Technologies (CHAT). The Blynk application is used
to monitor the water level status of the fogponics chambers, and serves as the
microcontroller to automatically control the refilling process. Integrating 2 different
fogging frequencies the 45 Minutes Fogging Frequency (45MFF) and the 30 Minutes
Fogging Frequency (30MFF), each having 15 minutes deactivation respectively. Both
frequencies utilize the same treatments, therefore the thorough evaluation of the system
lies on the best frequency to be used for the crops. The 30MFF, in terms of plant height,
has an average growth rate of 9.25 cm., and 3.53 in terms of the number of leaves,
harvesting 18 out of 18 pieces equivalent to 132 grams in yield. On the other hand, the
45MFF, in terms of plant height, has an average rate of decrease of 2.67 cm., and 1.83 in
terms of the number of leaves, plants did not grow sufficiently for harvest, therefore there
is nothing that has been harvested in this frequency. The 30MFF outperformed the 45 MFF
in terms of yield, and through the trials and data collection implemented it is evident that
the comparative performance of the 30MFF proves that it is the best frequency to be
utilized for spring onion production. This outcome proves the effectiveness of the system
as it was able to determine which fogging frequency works best for the plant.
