This study determined the efficacy of probiotic against mastitis in water buffalo in oral and intramammary infusion. This was done by comparing the effective route of administration and comparing against antibiotic use. Water buffaloes with clinical mastitis were sourced out from the Philippine Carabao Center national Gene Pool. Clinical mastitis condition was determined using physical evaluation which consisted of palpation of mammary gland and the California Mastitis Test. OptiproR, thr probiotic dosage was 1 gram of directly dissolved in 1 liter of distilled water as a premix in 1 kg of feeds. Probiotics was infused directly into the teat sinus via the streak canal using a sterile blunted syringe needle 10 mL was given per teat per day for 1 month and 100 mL of probiotic was administered to the animal orally per day for 1 month. For the antibiotic the standard treatment of the farm was done, that is, intramammary infusion of the 10 mL (200 mg) of Cephapirin Sodium was given once per teat of the animal. Result showed that probiotic had an effect against mastitis and the most effective route was oral administration of probiotics. Comparably, antibiotic also had an effect on mastitis but it could be costly , traumatic in animals and could cause possible antibiotic resistance.
