Abstract
The major practice in organic lettuce (lactuca sativa L.) production was conducted from August 31, 2016 to February 16, 2017 in a 96m2 area at the Ramon Magsaysay CEnter for Agricultural Resources and Environment Studies (RM-CARES), Central Luzon State University, Science City of Muñoz Nueva Ecija. The objectives were; to expose the major practice student to the different practices in organic farming system that are performed at the RM-CARES; to enhance practical knowledge and skills in organic lettuce production; and to determine the cost and return analysis of organic lettuce production in three cropping cycle.
During the period, the student was exposed to different activities in RM-CARES including composting, production of organic liquid fertilizer such as FFJ and OHN, manure tea preparation, manure tea application, and other cultural management practices practices related to organic lettuce production. The student field practice was also attended the seminars and training conducted by the RM-CARES to further enhance his knowledge and experience in organic system.
Moreover, based from the result of this organic lettuce production of the major practice student, among the varieties planted, Lollo Rossa obtained the highest yield of 30 kg that resulted to a Return of Investment of 324.78%.
