Abstract
The CLSU University Library Institutional Repository served as a digital repository that aimed to preserve and distribute academic works and research outputs created by the CLSU academic community. However, the existing version of the repository, known as DSpace 6, faced various challenges and limitations that hindered its effectiveness. To address these issues, the developer team proposed enhancing the repository to DSpace 7, a widely used open-source repository technology in academic and research institutions. This chapter outlined the goals of the enhancement project, which included successfully installing DSpace 7, migrating data from the existing repository, expanding the content available in the repository, improving the user interface, and implementing better long-term preservation strategies. The chapter also provided details on the methodology employed to implement these proposed enhancements, following the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) approach, which includes planning, analysis, design, development, testing, and maintenance stages. Feasibility studies, technical and operational analyses, and economic assessments were conducted to ensure the viability and cost-effectiveness of the project. The results of this study were expected to contribute to the improvement of the CLSU University Library Institutional Repository by providing a more efficient platform for preserving, accessing, and sharing scholarly and research outputs. By upgrading to DSpace 7, the institutional repository aimed to overcome current challenges, enhance the user experience, and ensure the long-term availability and accessibility of its content.
