| dc.description.abstract | Vermicomposting is becoming popular in the Municipality of Balungao, Pangasinan, particularly in the barangay of Esmeralda, Pugaro, San Joaquin and San Marcelino be engaging in Organic Agriculture that were supported by the Republic Act 10086. Some farmers in these areas are also beneficiaries of 4Ps and yet have started to make and use their own vermicomposting as an organic fertilizer or the so called vermicast. However, sustainability in making and using the vermicomposting as the vermicast is still observed and tested to be inconsistent until today. This study is conducted to know the effect of LGU-based training on Vermicomposting among farmers in the Balungao Pangasinan. The scope of this study is not only the knowledge, attitude, skills, and the interest on trial but also covered supportable. The respondents are randomly chosen, hence it is easily generalized the farmers as a whole. The study employed survey questionnaire with 120 respondents. Thirty (30) farmers from barangay Esmeralda, thirty (30) farmers from Barangay Pugaro, thirty (30) farmers from Barangay San Joaquin and thirty (30) farmers from Barangay San Marcelino. Majority of the farmers who are fully engaged in the training intervention and still use of vermicast are in the age of 47-57 and all are married. Farming is the main source of income which produces more than P 5,000 below because they are only tenants. The effects of LGU-based training on vermicomposting in Balungao, Pangasinan have significant differences in terms of the perceived level of knowledge of the respondents on vermicomposting before and after attending the training. There are more farmers who are just attend in the second training and not able to try it on their home. Sustainability of using vermicast as organic fertilizer among farmers 4Ps beneficiaries’ at average. Still, the data gathered on farmers’ skills in making vermicomposting are not sufficient to conclude that farmers did not follow the proper process in making vermicomposting. | |
