The study was carried out to design, fabricate and evaluate the performance of seed counting machine in increasing the germination of the seeds. The specific goal of this study was to determine the appropriate duration to facilitate its coating performance and perform simple cost analysis on the device. The machine was fabricated based on design plans and specifications. The components of the coater include the container, ac motor, metal disc, discharge port and frame. The coater unit was designed with an overall dimension of 61.5 cm x 61.5 cm x 120 cm (L x W x H) and weight of 52 kg. Three different duration (10 seconds, 30 seconds, and 60 seconds) were evaluated. three (3) kilograms of samples were used in the treatment at three (3) replications. Results showed that the appropriate coating duration was at 60 seconds giving a coating efficiency of 93.85% in corn, while 93.93% in soybean and germination rate 98.67% in corn while 92.67% in soybean. Likewise, the amount of damaged seeds was only 2.06 in corn while 2.74 in soybean. The cost of fabricating the machine was Php 12,780 and the machine was calculated to operate at fixed annual cost and variable cost of 2,108.7 Php/yr, and 72,745.28 Php/yr, respectively and it would take 2 years to break-even.
