Abstract
Backyard: Sustainability of upland farming system in many areas of the world is influenced by rapid changes of social aspects and improper use of natural resources in the environment. This study was conducted to examine the sustainability of upland farming system in barangay Ganduz, Pantabangan, Nueva Ecija using three indicators which is ecological soundness, economic viability and social acceptability. Methods: Ecological soundness was assessed using oil quality assessment and evaluation of soil fertility management. Physico-chemical properties of the soil were assessed in the laboratory; Economic viability such as productivity and net income; Social acceptability like environment-friendly farming practices and evaluation of soil fertility management was assessed with the use of survey questionnaires and interviews of the farmer respondents: Results: The sustainability of upland farming system in the study area was evaluated with low of natural resources, and lack of suffient capital for farming, affect the production of crops in the study area. Therefore, this kind of practices and problems influence the sustainability of upland farming system in Brgy. Ganduz Pantabangan, Nueva Ecija.
